History of Morningside: MLPA Walking Tour

Saturday, June 20

10:00 to 11:30 a.m

Begin/End at Morningside Farmers' Market (1411 N Morningside Dr)

Pam and Jim Auchmutey have graciously agreed to lead upcoming Neighborhood History Walks this summer for neighbors! The pair are currently mapping out a “highlights” route featuring some of the neighborhood’s most interesting historic sites, designed to last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. They are also walking the route themselves to fine-tune timing and accessibility for participants.

The tour will begin and end at the information booth of the Morningside Farmers’ Market, located at 1411 N. Morningside Drive, where ample surface and street parking is available.

Pam and Jim are longtime volunteers and tour guides at The Wren’s Nest in Atlanta’s West End. Jim, a former reporter for the AJC, has a longtime passion for reading and writing about history.

Along the route, participants will learn not only about the history of Morningside and Virginia-Highland, but also about the important events, preservation efforts, and historic markers that help tell the story of Atlanta’s growth and transformation through the decades.

The first walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
